Festival Season Is Here – Let’s Talk Alcohol, Not Regrets

As the tents go up and the wristbands go on, there’s no denying the buzz of festival season. Whether it’s a muddy field in Yorkshire or a sun-soaked weekend escape to Barcelona, festivals are a time to let loose, dance, and connect. But with alcohol flowing freely, it’s also a time when things can go from fun to fuzzy – fast!

At No Regrets, we’re not here to kill your vibe. We’re here to keep you safe, informed, and still smiling on Monday morning. So, before the first drink hits your hand, here are a few things to think about that could save you from making decisions you’ll regret and help make your festival one to remember for the right reasons.

Know Your Limits – and Respect Them

Everyone’s tolerance is different. What feels fine for your mate might hit you twice as hard. If you’re drinking, take it slow at first and check in with how you feel. Pacing yourself means you’ll enjoy more of the weekend, instead of spending it in a first aid tent (or even worse! Missing your favourite act because you’re too out of it to move).

Mixing Can Mess You Up

We’re talking drinks here. Mixing lots of different types of alcohol (beer, spirits, wine) might seem like fun, but it often leads to faster intoxication and much worse hangovers. Try sticking to one type of drink and always keep an eye on how strong it is. Festival cocktails can be much boozier than you think.

Water Is Your Festival Bestie

Alcohol dehydrates you – and if you’re dancing in the sun, that effect doubles. We’ve all seen our step count go off the scale at a festival. Sip water between alcoholic drinks, and make sure you’re getting at least a pint of water every couple of hours. Not only will it keep you safer, but it’ll also massively reduce your risk of hangovers and heatstroke. Love you water bestieeeeee!

Eat Something First – And Keep Snacking

Alcohol hits harder on an empty stomach. Get a proper meal in before drinking and take advantage of the amazing food stalls to keep you fuelled. Your body (and your brain) will thank you for it.

Look After Your Mates – And Yourself

If your friend’s slurring, stumbling, or not making sense – they’re too far gone mate. Help them get to a safe place, stay with them, and seek help from festival medics if needed. Don’t leave anyone alone in a vulnerable state.

And if you’re feeling pressured to keep drinking when you’ve had enough – it’s okay to say no. You’re allowed to take breaks, switch to soft drinks, or stop altogether. Good times shouldn’t come with guilt.

Plan Your Journey – Not Just Your Outfit

If you’re driving home or heading back to work the next day, remember alcohol can stay in your system much longer than you might think. Even after sleeping, you might still be over the limit. Plan a lift, book that Monday off, or stay over. Better safe than sorry.

Let the Memories Last – Not the Regrets

Festivals are for making memories, not mistakes. You don’t need to overdo it to have a brilliant time. With a bit of planning, awareness, and a lot of water, you can get the most out of your weekend – and still remember the headliner.

So, this festival season, party smart. No regrets. Just good times. 💚
